Sochi Olympics...art journal page

This page sits opposite my week and you flip it open to see the pages in the previous post. I wanted to do a page in my planner for the Olympics, and when Nicole Maki sent me the hand printed paper with the rings on it, I knew it would be part of the page! It was printed on tissue paper and so beautiful. The page I started with was already watercolored blue, so I just went from there.

Here it is as you open the planner to the week. I always enjoy seeing other's planners as they would look if you were holding them, so you get to see mine that way too.
Glamour shot. Look how thick...remember this is just a little 3.5x5.5 calendar book.

Tree of Life

This page is the result of an exercise in a workshop I'm taking this month. I'm not going to go into explanations, as it's part of many exercises, but I just wanted to to post because I'm back to journaling and painting and drawing. That was my goal this December: to get back in the the swing of it!

Route 66 Giants...and a little color

Adding some color to the tags. So far so good. I'm not sure how this is all going to go together, so I guess we will find out together!

A bit of color..

I can't seem to get the color to show right on screen, however. The water is definitely a completely different color...but I don't have the skills to mess with the photo to show you a more accurate version. But you get the idea. Lots of blues and purpley blues..for some reason the violets are getting lost.

This is a gorgeous spot on the Puna coast on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Pohoiki Warm Pond

I almost scrapped this one, but saved it because I started drawing it on site. It's a record of my day, and a pretty nice day at that......any day by the water in the sun has a darn good start. The ocean is just feet away, but this little pond (heated from underground) is tucked up under the ivy and trees.  I get self-conscious when people watch me (they were) and was trying to draw all those rocks without really taking the time to truly see them as they are. Anyway, I wish you could see how beautiful this little spot truly is.

Queen Liliuokalani Gardens

I did this page long ago, and wasn't happy with it. It's still not what I would have liked, but I kind of like the moodiness of it now. I added some pieces of maps, a fish cut from a tattoo ad, and a little journaling about the day.  The facing page will probably feature a geko....a tattoo influenced geko :)

Plate Lunch...yum.

I'm not much into drawing my food, but Hawaii has some interesting local favorites. The plate lunch comes with lots of rice and usually macaroni salad, though it the second side could be any number of things. Various meats are used also. My favorites are huli huli chicken, pork, or chicken katsu. I never would have thought of having mac salad and rice together, but it's a pretty darn delicious lunch!
