Sketching at Morton Arboretum

Saturday we went to Morton Arboretum to wander around and enjoy the day. I was with Joe and he's not a sketcher, but I got in a fast one anyway. This is a sculpture by Patrick Dougherty. Very cool and very sturdy...though it makes me think of one of the 3 little pigs houses...built of sticks!
The 17 year cicadas were everywhere...and the noise they make is other worldly. I still may add some color or something to these pages.
Looking up....like a rustic church.
Just trying a new profile pic.

That's a really lovely photo of you! I'm glad you are changing it, I think photos of bloggers is a much better idea than illos, or old photos because it gives the blog an identity that is easier to relate to - a brand if you like. So many bloggers try to get noticed but have easily forgotten profile pics!

Great to see you sketching again and a fascinating subject to get going!

I agree with Felicity, that's a beautiful photo. I like the way you've done this post, mixing photos with your drawing - which came out beautifully.

Thank you! I'm so glad you all are still visiting since I've been going through such a dry spell. It's a new month so I'm going to do a calendar again this month...it's a good way to do a little something every day.

What a neat place! And aren't the cicadas just fun? We had them a few years back (ours were brood X) and our yard was overrun! I saved some wings in my journal, glued in between mylar with acrylic gel medium and then put into a slide mount, along with a drawing of one. Other people fried them up and ate them, but that just wasn't for me! :-)
And the photo of you -- perfect for your avatar! I'm glad you decided to go with it!
