Young Artist at Work

This is my husband's younger cousin, Maggie. She is in eighth grade and a wonderful artist. We were at a family party on Sunday, and she (like a true artist) brought her sketchbook with her. She is very in to sketching Manga characters of her own making, but before the day was over she was sketching from a portrait of the newest baby in our family.

As someone who only occasionally has my sketches of people turn out looking human, I was just blown away by her sketching. At the end of the day she gave the parents of little Jenna the sketch...aren't they lucky parents?!
Maggie, it was so inspiring and fun to talk with you on Sunday!

That young lady has a lot of ability! I'll bet she draws all the time to develop it, too. Tell her we're cheering her on, and to follow her heart's desire ...

impressive artistist for a young one, but nice to have the inspiration for yourself and the impack that you had on her. maybe she'll make some changes in her drawing now to include people now and then. i have a couple cousins who are cartoonists, and the cartoons they have drawn of family members over the years bring back lots of memories! that picture will probably wind up in the baby's scrapbook and always be remembered! great job!

love the rest of your work posted, too. especially the sailboat on the water and the windows at purdue.

Wow. Good for that young woman -- a true artist, indeed.

I was so excited to find out that another family memeber was into art. I think that Maggie draws people a lot....I'm the one who tends to leave them out of my pictures. If I practiced drawing people as much as Maggie I would probably get good at it! Maggie's grandmother is an artist too.

What a fun thing to discover about a family member! She really is quite the artist -- you should ask her to "guest post" on your blog every so often so we can all cheer her on!

that's a good idea Linda!
