For that week in The Documented Life Project we were to use a Bible verse or a quote from another book. I love Proverbs 31 so I used a verse from that chapter. That Proverbs woman is one well rounded character, and one that has me striving to do the things she does.
Here it is with my calendar page facing. The flowers on that page are from a page of stickers I colored and drew on. The woman is cut from a fitness magazine, the background is some gelli printed paper combined with acrylic paints. The inking is Sharpie waterbased pen and the Scarlet Lime pen.

Cowboy Motel
Starting on another Route 66 piece today. This one is the Cowboy Motel sign which is Amarillo, Texas. I'm going to add some color to the cowboy drawing, too. This one is on artist panel instead of canvas. Stay tuned!

Muffler Men on Route 66
I do believe they are done. I love the old advertising giants that you find along Highways like Route 66. Those and great old signs draw me like a magnet. This piece has ledger pages and other vintages pages peeking through the painted background. It also has hand-printed papers added to the background. The men are painted in watercolor on shipping tags and held in place with glue and paper fasteners. In the corner is a flattened Route 66 Root Beer cap.
What's next? The Cowboy Motel in Texas!

Route 66 Canvas
I drew these tags last year, and I'm finally getting around to (hopefully) making them into a finished piece. This has vintage papers (some from towns on Route 66), monoprinted papers, acrylic paint, and tags that are inked and watercolored. I'l probably use the Route 66 stamp I carved too.
One thing I like to do, is to pretty much make it all myself...stamps, papers and all. This is going to be one heck of a bright piece, but I'm liking it so far.

Playing Catch Up with my Planner
This page was made before I fell behind. The challenge that week was to document what you are thankful for. I also bought some neon paint that week, so of course I had to use it! The little girl and boy are cut from some junk mail envelope.
These pages start the weeks I'm catching up...thank goodness for facebook, so that I can look back and see what I was doing! The challenge that week was to use book text, and there was already a page from a French book tipped in to my planner that week, so I made it about my dream to visit there one day.
I also wanted to try doing a matte medium transfer, so I used a magazine photo. It turned out pretty well! After I rubbed the paper off the back, it was a little cloudy, but brushing a little more medium over the top cleared it up pretty well.
This is the other side of the French book page....a quick sketch of the Eiffel Tower, which I hope to see one day!
I filled in the rest with bits of my week, including exploring Hot Springs, AR with Jeff. That middle photo is of a gorgeous stained glass ceiling in a bathhouse in Hot Springs. Hot Springs is one of my favorite places in Arkansas so far.....beautiful town and countryside!
