Mississippi Palisades

Yesterday I spent the day by the Mississippi River where my husband is working for a couple of weeks. The Mississippi Palisades State park is a beautiful place. This is a spring that you pass just as you enter the park.
I hiked a couple of the trails and spent the day drawing while my husband was at work. The wildflowers were beautiful. Drifts of trillium and bluebells sweeping down the hillside. While I was drawing I was so still that 2 deer walked right up on me. I took some photos too and will add them to this post if they turned out well.

These are wonderful drawings and I'm sure will always take you back instantly to the lovely day you spent with flowers and deer enjoying a very quiet moment in this very busy world.

These are both lovely. I love the shading on the rocks...I am working on that. Was it pencil you used? What hardness?

Great sketching. I like the colors on the scene at the top.

Thanks! It is amazing how drawing something really does enable you to remember the experience so much better.

Sioux, I used pen and ink to draw, cross hatching in some areas that would be very dark. Then when I got to the top of the hill where there was a breeze off the river, I sat down with watercolor pencils and painted it in. The colors on the rocks are mostly a brown (maybe an umber?) and shades of gray from the black colored pencil.

Joyce, these sketches are really nice. I love the way you did the rock formation and the tap of water. Man-made versus Nature.
That must have been a beautiful walk!
