Aor and I met Lindsay and Lisa to sketch Chicago. It was wonderful to meet these artists/bloggers in person! And very cool to see their sketch books and tools....Lindsay was sketching in a journal she bound herself. Aor did her first realistic sketches...which were very good! Lisa was working with some water soluable graphite pencils I would love to try.
We met by Marshall Field's and set to work sketching the famous clock (challenge #41-draw a city landmark!). There was a nice supportive feel to being out sketching in a group. One man (who looked like he would like to join us) gave us the thumbs up as his wife hurried him along. Pretty soon we were well chilled...so we grabbed some cider and coffee and headed into the Chicago Cultural Center.
Lisa suggested we be brave and sketch people...we were brave enough to attempt that, but chicken enough to draw each other instead of strangers. Don't go by my sketches of them....Lisa and Lindsay are actually lovely ladies. The cultural center is a very beautiful building with wonderful mosaics covering the walls, floors and ceilings, fabulous light fixures and stained glass skylights.
I would love to do this again someday, and I hope we will have some more Chicago area artists join in!

Your architectural drawings are amazing. I'm so envious of your sketch crawl - it was fun to read the various versions of it though!

Joyce, I love your drawings! The inside one turned out so nicely! I was sorry we did not look at them before we left! Next time lets do lunch first?? Three cheers for our drawing group. Long may we crawl
Joyce, thank you for sharing your lovely sketches of your crawl, they're grand! I miss Chicago seeing them!
Joyce,
Your drawing of the hall is so impressive. It includes everything -- the architecture, the performer, the instrument, and the audience. Also I love the page spread with the clock. It was so nice to meet you and Aor. Next time, yes, we should do lunch for sure, and how about a trip to an art supply store?
Lisa
Great sketches - I love all the patterns, and the contrast in the top one especially.
Joyce,
Your sketchbook illustrations of the clock and catherdrawl are lovely and the detail marvelous. I particulary like the scenes surrounding the clock.
wonderful pages, love the one especially of Bradley Hall (?) looks so grand with the small crowd seated below, sounds like it was a grand day!
It looks like you all had a great time! Wonderful work!
Me too! So glad we met and can do this again.Someone in Olympia Field's wants to come next time. and several others. Just the thought of our drawing group makes me smile. You are an awesome drawer!
Wow, these are such great drawings!! I love, love, love the Preston Bradley Hall one! You did such a good job on this very complicated piece of architecture! I'm jealous of you for getting to meet Lindsay! And she, you ;D.
wonderful. The detail in the clock and arches and the color highlights are really good. It definitely gives you a feel of place. And how brave to draw in public.
I love the results of your sketch crawl with friends! Looks like so much fun. I have a group plein air class tomorrow, which I am enjoying very much. I'd love to go out sketching with others too. :) Your pages came out so great!
Hi Joyce! long time no see. Let's correct this! How about another crawl on December 11? Look for an announcement at the edm site!!
Are you ok? I'm missing you. Next crawl is sunday dec 11 at the field.
Great drawings, looks like you all had a great time! Wish I lived in Chicago!
These are wonderful! I love the layout on the pages too. Yay for community drawing!
Your sketch crawl pages are absolutely wonderful Joyce, What talent!
Your perspective and architectural rendering are terrific... It is funny how we recognize people but have a hard time seeing them accurately enough to really draw them, isn't it! Looks like a good concert. BTW, I found you via the EDM list.
