I also sketched a scene from the courtyard at the school where the games were held. The have a wonderful garden with copies of lots of famous sculptures and many inspiring quotes. In case you can't read the quote on this bench, it reads, "Use the talents you posess. For the woods would be a very silent place if no birds sang except the best." --Henry Van Dyke (Do I hear an Amen?)

Basketball Camp
Today I spent the day with a bunch of teen girls at basketball camp-watched them play 3 games. Tried to draw the players (fast movers) and the only one I really am pleased with is the sketch of my daughter reclining on the bench-I think I caught the way she was sitting with that one.

Wow, great drawings. Loved the one of your daughter..that seems like it would be such a difficult angle to draw from and you did terrific with it. Also love that sculpture garden. Seems like a very peaceful place.
Your art journal must be such a joy to sit with and go thru. I love what you are doing with it!

Thanks Pat! This is the first sketch book I have kept at for more than a few drawings. I think it helps that instead of random drawings that don't really relate to me--these are all straight from my life. It is more of a journal (as you said) and I am finding it much more fun to combine journaling and sketching than I did doing one or the other.
These are great! I love the one of your daugther seated. You really captured the pose well.
Hey, we did a similar thing today! I drew at a nursery school and wanted to do action things, but the children wanted me to draw their faces---it was lots of fun. I hope next week to go back. Your drawings are really good.

Figure drawing is so hard, but you've made it look fluid and real. Esp. the one from above and behind. Really well done.
